Our Chauffeur of the Month for December is Laurentiu, who drives in Stockholm, Sweden. Read on to hear about his experience after over a decade in the business.
“My advice to all Blacklane chauffeurs is to always go beyond the customer’s expectations and see yourself as not just a chauffeur. At the same time, you are an assistant, secretary, concierge or even a tourist guide,” says Laurentiu.
In the 12 years that Laurentiu has been working as a chauffeur he has worn many hats, even going so far as to make dinner reservations or help a guest purchase tickets to a soccer game.
“I started my own business because I like the freedom that this profession offers to decide your own working hours, and also meeting all kinds of interesting people. Every day is new and exciting,” Laurentiu said.
In an example of Laurentiu’s “above and beyond” mentality, he once drove a family from Kenya who desperately wanted to see snow for the first time, but there was no snow in Stockholm at the time. They were very disappointed, but Laurentiu had a solution.
“I checked the snow map of Sweden, and the nearest town was Umeå, around 400 miles north of Stockholm. I booked train tickets to Umeå for them, and they went off the next day. It proved to be one of the most unforgettable trips ever for this family.”
What helps make Laurentiu such a great chauffeur is that with so much time spent driving in Stockholm, he has learned all the ins and outs of the city. He says the city’s nickname of “the Venice of the North” is well-earned, and Stockholm is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, in no small part due to the many islands and bridges.
He highly recommends exploring the city in a chauffeured ride and with an authorized guide who can show you all the hidden gems of Stockholm and not just take you the most touristy destinations.
