Statement on Catalan government’s VTC sector regulations

Blacklane has been serving Spain since 2013, giving our guests the ability to book with just one-hour lead time in 10 cities across the country.

Last Friday, in response to the taxi strikes in Spain, the Catalan government implemented new regulations for the vehicle for hire (VTC) sector, a category which includes Blacklane and other ride services.

Travelers must now book VTC rides with a minimum 15-minute lead time across all of Catalonia, including the cities of Barcelona and Girona. This is a first-of-its-kind requirement in Europe.

While this change has meant some ride-hailing services have discontinued their business in Catalonia, the changes do not affect Blacklane.

Our booking process remains the same and previous bookings are not affected. Travelers, travel agents, and corporate travel managers may use our website, corporate portal, and apps just as before across all cities. Blacklane’s one-hour minimum lead time ensures compliance with Catalonia’s new rules.

Blacklane partners exclusively with commercially licensed and insured chauffeur companies. Further, the one-hour minimum lead time has been our model since Blacklane’s inception.
