We delve into the data to discover which luxury, executive and specialist sports vehicles people bought the most in the UK in 2024. From iconic brands to high-end models, find out which ones flew off the forecourt.

At Blacklane, we understand that your transportation reflects your lifestyle, and that the right choice can elevate every aspect of your day – whether it’s work, relaxation, or a special occasion.

Read on to discover the luxury, executive, and specialist sports vehicles which flew off the forecourts over the first half of this year in the UK, and which are sure to remain wildly popular well into 2025 and beyond. We gathered our vehicle registration data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which bills itself as the voice of the British motor industry.

The three categories here cater to different tastes and needs: luxury cars emphasize high-end comfort and cutting-edge technology, executive models balance premium features with everyday practicality, and specialist sports cars focus on exhilarating performance and striking designs. If you’re in the market for a new motor to turn heads and bring joy to every drive, look no further than our handy, informative round-up of the industry’s best-selling luxury cars in the UK.

Luxury

Mercedes S-Class

A blue Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury car in the Swiss town of St. Moritz.

For those drivers looking to keep abreast of the ever-accelerating tech wave – but who don’t lean full electric – the new Mercedes S-Class is absolutely brimming with smart, groundbreaking digital features.

This opulent carriage’s Drive Pilot interface is already primed for the forthcoming automated revolution, boasting lLevel 4 autonomy that allows the car to find a space and park itself in compatible garages. In some parts of Germany’s autobahn the new S-Class already has clearance to run autonomously, meaning you can potentially get some work done (or enjoy a pretzel) while your vehicle puts the miles in on the continent.

Other standout tech features include the MBUX infotainment system, complete with generous touchscreen and augmented reality navigation. There’s also advanced safety features such as the collision-anticipating Pre-Safe system, adding to your peace of mind.

With prices starting at around £100,000, the various S-Class models and extras can easily set you back approximately £200,000 all in. What you get in return, however, is a true masterclass in forward-facing automotive class and technology – a big and very clever saloon that truly pushes the envelope in inimitable Mercedes style.

BMW i7

It’s somewhat shocking that EVs (electric vehicles) have taken so long to infiltrate the luxury market. Despite the world crying out for more sustainable cars, there still seems to be a stubborn conservativeness at play among many top-end manufacturers. But with BMW’s bold commitment to launching hybrid and pure electric variants of its luxury 7 Series saloons, the tide may finally be turning. The BMW i7 is all electric, and also turns the dial up with other progressive features that look to the future.

First, it’s impossible not to be struck by the bold, uncompromising looks of the i7. This car’s dynamic, sporty vibe is distinct from many of its luxury competitors, making an entirely different impression on the road.

However, inside the vehicle the striking aesthetic gives way to refined, next level luxury that’s entirely comfortable. Designer seating, interior details shaded with a distinctive cobalt blue motif and a remarkable array of screens all come together in harmony, giving you the feeling you’re taking to the skies in a luxury jet.

Indeed, BMW seems to be leaning into the i7’s cinematic flair both visually and audibly. While accelerating, you can activate a sci-fi-style sound swell composed by none other than Hans Zimmer. Even if you’re not going interstellar, with 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds and your own dramatic theme to accompany, you might feel like it.

Outside of the bells and whistles, the BMW i7 significantly elevates the electric car experience, scoring high across the board for quality, comfort, power and cabin space. Prices begin at around £100,000, not including options.

Mercedes EQS

A two-tone Mercedes EQS luxury car in London operated by Blacklane.

Mercedes-Benz led the luxury and executive car segments in 2024, with the EQS standing out as a popular choice in its class. Maybe it’s the futuristic, sporty edge this model brings to the classic Mercedes S-Class, combined with its status as the German powerhouse’s flagship EV. Rather than being a pure electric variant of a series, as with the BMW i7, the EQS stands apart as a vehicle specifically tailored for electrified driving.

And, while we’re not biased, we at Blacklane should know. We like this car so much that it’s a key vehicle in our electric fleet worldwide. In fact, our Dubai fleet is entirely made up of the EQS.

Notably, this luxury vehicle offers nearly 500 miles of drive time on a single battery charge, with charge times as low as 31 minutes. This is a big, refined car, and the EQS has scored well with reviewers for its power, speed and overall ride comfort — especially on motorways.

As with most of the vehicles in our luxury category, the EQS’s main signature is perhaps its tech. The car’s striking ‘hyperscreen’ now comes as standard on all models, transforming your dashboard into a slick, 56-inch digital interface that might even put your home TV to shame. There’s also a cheeky extra screen for your passenger.

In practice, you have an all-in-one hub from which to access myriad needs while driving, including music and sat nav. It’s a tech-head’s dream, and soon becomes second nature with a bit of practice. This impressive feature is surely one of the reasons the EQS has led the pack for luxury car sales.

Taking one of these boundary-pushing chariots home will set you back around £100,000, before extras.

Audi A8

A charcoal black Audi A8 luxury car.

The other option when it comes to German luxury cars, Audi continually holds its own as an exceptional all rounder — and the current A8 is no exception.

Among various reviewers, it’s the comfort of this car that’s gotten the most attention. The A8’s cabin is plush, offering extremely comfy seats and a highly welcoming atmosphere for drivers and passengers alike. It also comes complete with a three screen display containing a full array of impressive tech options. However, what’s striking is how this fancy interface manages to be discreetly contained – despite everything being right at your fingertips it’s surprisingly streamlined in its design.

The cherry on top of an outstanding luxury saloon might be the price. Starting at around £80,000, the A8 is undoubtedly the best value vehicle within our luxury selection, bringing you all the benefits of a high quality driving experience at a much more forgiving cost.

Bentley Continental

Few luxury car brands ooze the aristocratic charm and sheer statement power of Bentley. And with the fourth generation of the Continental GT just hitting the market, it’s clear that the appetite for these exquisite grand tourers is stronger than ever.

As you’d expect, the Continental GT is a big heavy cruiser, powered by a twin turbo V8 engine that’s augmented by an electric motor. For luxury lovers seeking a truly powerful ride, it can reach speeds of up to 208 mph, with 0-60mph being achieved in a gobsmacking 3.1 seconds.

Visually, this is a car that maintains the gravitas of Bentley’s heritage while also emphasizing a modern, sporty edge. Just check out the handcrafted hide interiors complete with orange racing accents, effortlessly rubbing shoulders with the stylish, minimal elegance of the dashboard. It’s a far cry from the tech-laden interiors of its competition, instead foregrounding an understated vibe that’s both sophisticated and cool.

Most important of all, the new Continental GT has been fine-tuned to support better body control and a more responsive, comfortable and enjoyable driving experience overall. Simply put, this is a car that brings together the best of all worlds in one supremely classy package.  Prices start from around £236,000.

Executive

Mercedes C-Class

2024 saw the arrival of the fifth generation Mercedes C-Class saloon on the scene. It has big shoes (or wheels) to fill – the fourth generation C-Class had sold an impressive 2.5 million units between 2014 and 2021. But fear not: This is a Mercedes we’re talking about.

Rather than completely reinventing itself, the latest model evolves on the core features of its popular predecessor, injecting exciting new tech and design upgrades into the picture to build on existing loyalty. A variety of four cylinder hybrid engines are on offer, giving the C-Class steady, albeit somewhat reserved, power when it comes to acceleration and drive quality. Handling is smooth and comfortable, though some reviewers have flagged the car’s high brake action, which can take a touch longer than expected to bite.

This aside, the C-Class is regarded as an excellent vehicle for long transits, particularly across highways.

Notably, the car’s sophisticated interior has been lifted directly from Mercedes’s flagship S-Class, bringing a dose of extra quality to the overall offering. An 11.9-inch touchscreen is the centerpiece, putting many key features right at your fingertips. Perhaps most important of all, the C-Class’s seats are exceptionally comfy, helping you relax while you’re out on the road. All things considered, it’s no surprise the new C-Class topped the executive list in 2024. Prices start at just under £40,000, with various options and upgrades available.

Audi A6

A vehicle that seems to confidently assert ‘professional’, the A6 carries forward Audi’s long pedigree as a smart, sensible luxury car brand that also pushes the envelope for details and quality.

While its big brother the A8 comes with all tech guns blazing, the A6 is a more subtle prospect. Visually, its exterior has got the signature Audi style and feel, oozing understated class. Meanwhile, the interior is a tightly designed thing of beauty decked out in black and silver palette. Twin touchscreens accompany the car’s virtual instrument cluster at the front.

Available with 2- or 3-liter petrol or diesel engines, complete with mild hybrid tech, the A6 builds on previous models to offer a somewhat more agile and dynamic drive. It all comes together to offer a high quality executive saloon that’s ideal for putting in long distance drives in style and comfort. Prices start at around £40,000.

BMW 5 Series

With its distinct looks and outstanding all-round drive quality, it’s easy to see why the latest BMW 5 Series release has captured the hearts and wallets of so many drivers in search of the best luxury cars. Various flavors of electric and hybrid are on offer, scaling all the way up to the aforementioned BMW i5.

In terms of drive quality, the 5 Series has long been celebrated for its balancing of comfort and performance, underpinned by the inline-6 engine. Taking corners feels smooth and precise, while highway cruising is muscular. Switch between Sport and Comfort mode to vary between a sharp, responsive ride or softer, more easygoing control.

In the driver’s seat, you’ll enjoy the benefits of the 5 Series’ curved dual display. All the key info and entertainment options you need are represented on the 12.3-inch digital instrument screen behind the steering wheel and the generous 14.9-inch infotainment screen bang in the middle, now integrating climate control.

The interior complements the car’s bold, geometric exterior looks, bringing just a hint of the futuristic to proceedings while also keeping things compact and minimal.

The devil may well be in the detail when it comes to choosing your 5 Series – with so many different models available, prices range from £50,000 all the way up to the £90,000 mark.

Mercedes E-Class

Renowned for its exceptional carrying capacity, the Mercedes E-Class sports a whopping 614-liter trunk. If you’re in the market for an executive car that can comfortably handle the family dog plus plenty of luggage – without skimping on quality and luxury brand style – this might be just the motor for you.

Beyond the space focus, you’ve got three flavors of this car to choose from: Petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid are all on offer. In terms of overall drive quality, this is a calm, serene vehicle that serves effortlessly as a transport over long highway trips.

If you’ve got a passenger in need of entertainment, the E-Class’s MBUX full-width screen is definitely an added bonus, giving them a touchscreen to play with that won’t distract your driving. Prices for the E-Class start from around £57,000.

Mercedes EQE

Mercedes’s electrified version of the E-Class follows hot on the (w)heels of its fossil fuel twin, offering an executive saloon that keeps the focus squarely on luxury and technology.

With a battery range of 300-350 miles on a full charge, the EQE can get you wherever you’re going in style and comfort, needing just a 35-minute full charge time. It’s a smooth, quiet ride that’s spacious inside and feels like it’s part of the new generation of electric performance.

For luxury car buyers who value sustainability, the EQE manages an impressive balancing act. As with the E-Class, passengers and driver can enjoy the MBUX Hyperscreen while out on the road, while semi-autonomous features like auto emergency braking are there to provide even more support to the person in charge. EQE prices start from around £68,000.

Specialist Sports

Porsche Taycan

As Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan has caused big ripples among sports car enthusiasts since its release. This flagship, luxury sports sedan blends performance, cutting-edge technology, and sustainability with the brand’s signature style.

Various configurations of the Taycan are available, depending on your needs. For speed freaks, the Taycan Turbo S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a jaw-dropping 2.6 seconds, making it one of the quickest electric vehicles on the market.

Intelligent engineering incorporates features like rear-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension, to provide handling and control that can comfortably contain the car’s power. To help you go the distance, a full battery charge can take you up to 246 miles.

The interior of the Taycan is luxurious, with high-quality materials contained inside a modern, minimalist design. Three cutting-edge touchscreens complete the luxurious ensemble.

With Porsche’s pedigree for style and performance, it’s no surprise the Taycan has topped the sales charts for this category. Costs range from around £86,000 up to the much more substantial price tag of £186,000.

Porsche 911

Talk about legacy…the latest Porsche 911 follows in the footsteps of one of the world’s all-time iconic sports cars, emblazoned in the minds of millions of motorheads worldwide.

The good news is, the 2024 incarnation is up to the task, channeling the timeless design, rear-engine and exceptional driving dynamics known and loved by drivers, while adding several updates and refinements to make the 911 even more attractive to luxury car buyers.

Alongside that sleek, sexy Porsche aesthetic, it’s still the engine that’s the beating heart. For speed enthusiasts seeking high end performance, the Turbo and Turbo S models wring 572 and 640 horsepower from it, respectively.

More advanced builds like the Carrera 4S and Turbo offer all-wheel drive, boosting traction in a way that supports all kinds of driving conditions.

Nothing more need be said about that exterior, but the gorgeously redefined interior elevates the total package with luxury materials making up the seats and dash, complemented by a blend of classic Porsche analog dials and modern digital touchscreen. Prices start at around £100,000.

Audi e-tron GT

Porsche may have taken the luxury sports bestseller spot with the Taycan, but the stylish, powerful Audi e-tron certainly ain’t far behind. This chiselled GT beast has wowed reviewers with its outstanding combo of performance, handling and head-turning looks. It also has the word ‘tron’ in its name, which automatically makes it cool.

Notably, the oomph this car offers is quite staggering; just 3.1 seconds from 0 to 60mph. Beefy electric motors support all-wheel drive, making for gossamer smooth handling. And you’ll want it – depending on your model, the e-tron puts out between 469 and 590 horsepower, and can really glide.

A sports-style interior finds a good balance between slick design and comfort, with a decent amount of headroom and legroom for passengers. Luxury materials such as Nappa leather and wood come together in harmony with an ambient lighting system that makes for a soothing interior environment.

As if the sustainability badge weren’t reason enough to consider this from our best luxury cars lineup, the electric battery also deserves your attention. In just 23 minutes you can reach up to an 80% charge, while the car has a range of 238-246 miles on full charge.

All told, the e-tron is an exciting, sophisticated option that will get your friends and colleagues talking. Prices start from around £107,000, and because all good things come to an end, the carmaker recently confirmed that they’re not producing new versions of the e-tron GT anymore.

Porsche 718m

Available in two distinct models, the 718 Cayman (coupe) and 718 Boxster (convertible), the 718 series continues Porsche’s tradition of combining cutting-edge engineering with luxury performance, offering fancy car enthusiasts an exhilarating driving experience.

With its mid-engine layout, the 718 delivers outstanding balance and agility, reaching 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. However, active suspension management and torque vectoring allow this nippy creature to get you where you’re going under precision control.

As you’d expect from such a sleek, sculpted vehicle, luxury materials complete the experience inside the 718, with high-end leather, Alcantara and brushed aluminum, not to mention comfortable, sporty seats, giving you a hotel-standard decor. It’s all capped off with the mandatory touchscreen for infotainment. Drive a 718 away from around £45,000.

Audi TT

The Audi TT has long held the spotlight as one of Audi’s sexiest, and most popular, cars – and the 2024 edition continues the story with its effortless blend of sporty performance, refined handling and gorgeous, curvy design.

Its fast speeds and low stance are backed up with the Quattro all-wheel drive system, prioritizing stability, traction and precise control out in the wild.

Better yet, the TT 2024 incorporates Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI), giving you a fully digital cockpit containing all the vital instruments, plus all the infotainment bells and whistles you need. Smartphone integration also offers seamless connectivity with your pocket powerhouse.

A famously compact coupe, it’s fair to say the driver and front seat passenger get the best experience compared with the wince-making rear bench…but then, that’s probably only for the dog and/or storage, unless you have very skinny friends. Prices start from around £46,000 – is it finally time you got yourself one?
