Teterboro NJ Airport is located in Bergen County, New Jersey, about 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan. Owned and managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Teterboro is one of more than 20 private airfields serving the greater New York City region.

Teterboro airport history

The 827-acre Teterboro Airport (TEB) opened in 1919 and is the oldest operating airport in the greater NYC area. It served as a base for mail planes in the 1920s and as a U.S. Army base during World War II. After the war, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey acquired the property and leased it to Pan Am Airways (and its parent company, Johnson Controls) until 2000.

The airport has a weight limit of 100,000 pounds on all aircraft, which makes it not viable as a commercial airfield. The property is also home to the Aviation Hall of Fame and Museum of New Jersey, with its displays of flight-related fine art and memorabilia, its extensive model collection, and its library of more than 4,000 volumes.

Teterboro Airport flights

Approximately two-thirds of the flights in and out of TEB Airport are by private planes, either owned by individuals or corporations. The rest are air taxis. There are no commercial flights from this airport. Approximately 488 flights depart Teterboro each day and 121 planes are currently based there.

Teterboro private jet terminals

There are 19 hangers on the Teterboro Airport property, some of which have pilot lounges and other facilities for the owners, guests, and staff connected with aircraft based there.

In addition, there are five fixed-base operators (FBOs) at Teterboro Airport. These companies handle aircraft fueling, parking, maintenance, baggage handling, and other related services. FBOs at Teterboro include Atlantic Aviation, Signature South, Jet Aviation, Meridian Teterboro, and Signature Flight Support.

Arriving international passengers clear customs at Hanger 1. Although the airport is open 24 hours, the customs office is only open between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Private charters at Teterboro Airport

The vast majority of flights that depart and land at Teterboro Airport, more than two-thirds, are private aircraft. More than 120 aircraft are available for private charter from the fixed based operators at Teterboro. These include turboprops like the King Air 200 to midsize jets like the Citation III to long-range jets like the Gulfstream V.

How to get to Teterboro airport

One of the most convenient ways to travel to and from TEB Airport is to book a reliable Blacklane New York airport transfer service, which will pick you up at the private air terminal and drive you to the city or other destination, stress-free and in style.

Note: there is no central parking lot at Teterboro Airport so any parking arrangements are made by the individual fixed base operators.

Since Teterboro is a general aviation airport, there are no car rental desks at the airport. However, the fixed base operators can make arrangements for a car rental to be waiting to meet private flights.
